FDA Issues Draft Guidance on Action Levels for Lead in Juice

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued the Draft Guidance to Industry on Action Levels for Lead in Juice reducing the recommended action level for lead in juice products.

The current action level for lead in juice is 50 ppb as per the Guidance for Industry: Juice Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Hazards and Controls Guidance.

The draft guidance proposes the following action levels:
• 10 ppb lead for ready-to-drink apple juice
• 20 ppb lead for other ready-to-drink juice types, including juice blends that include apple juice
