U.S. CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Infant Walkers

Dec. 3 2022

On Tuesday November 29, 2022, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1216, Safety Standard for Infant Walkers. 16 CFR Part 1216 will now reference ASTM F977-22e1, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Infant Walkers as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of the 16 CFR 1216 referenced the ASTM F977-12 with no modifications. Following the 2012 version of the F977, ASTM revised the standard three times with versions in 2018, 2022, and then the 2022e1 version. The 2018 version contained only editorial changes to the standard. The 2022 version contained test method revisions and clarifications. The 2022e1 version contains editorial revisions.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective February 25, 2023 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by December 29, 2022.
