VEGAN PRODUCT TESTING
FOR CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR
With veganism becoming more of a lifestyle choice, the need for proving that a product does not contain any animal-related produce is now more important than ever.
While primarily veganism has been associated with diet, it is a total lifestyle choice and requires the newly initiated to examine all aspects of their existence regarding how they interact with animals. This obviously also includes the immediate surroundings and the clothes and footwear which are worn.
HOW BV CAN HELP
Bureau Veritas along with our partner AMSlab have developed a range of tests to prove products are 100% vegan. These tests allow a brand or retailers to properly test their products and label them as 100% vegan. We can test all clothing, footwear and accessories elements, identify each product used, check for cross-contamination during the manufacturing process, and confirm if a product is 100% vegan.
In 2021 AMSlab registered their test methods with The Vegan Society, allowing you to provide proof that products are 100% Vegan when applying for the trademark registration.
TRUSTED VEGAN LABELLING BY THE VEGAN TRADEMARK
The Vegan Trademark, by The Vegan Society’ has been helping people identify that a product is free from animal ingredients since 1990. Registration with the trademark gives brands the confidence to shout about their vegan credentials. By using the AMSlab test method, you can speed up the process of registering your products.
PETA APPROVED TESTING
In collaboration with the organization PETA, has developed a control methodology to verify the absence of products of animal origin in clothing, footwear and accessories under the vegan standard. It is the “Vegan Product” seal, which allows consumers to quickly identify this type of item.
Vegan test is a quality control methodology to verify the absence of animal products under the vegan standard. Four technologies that verify the absence of any animal product:
The absence of animal fibre is verified by microscopic techniques and a specifically developed chemical analysis.
Polymeric Material and Synthetic Leather Test
Using FTIR spectroscopy, we identify the type of polymer component used.
Glues & Adhesives Test
The absence of glue and adhesives of animal origin is verified via HPLC-MS/MS analysis methods, through which we identify different biomolecules that indicate the absence of components of animal origin.
We verify the absence of animal origin dyes by mass spectronty.
