Bureau Veritas Buffalo Lab Announces New Capability for Corded Window Coverings

Jan. 14 2021

The Bureau Veritas lab in Buffalo, NY is pleased to announce that capability development has been completed and the lab is able to conduct testing against the new Corded Window Coverings Regulations for Canada.

As previously announced, the Corded Window Coverings Regulations put in place brand new, unique requirements for the window coverings industry that are more stringent than the preceding regulation. These new requirements apply to all interior window covering products (both custom-made and stock) that contain at least one cord or cord like material in its construction.

Based on Health Canada’s test method for compliance assessments, new and specialized test equipment was necessary to properly conduct the evaluations outlined.  The lab is now able to accommodate new submission requests for this testing.

The regulation will come into force on May 1, 2021, but Health Canada has previously indicated the following:

  • From May 1, 2021, to April 30, 2022, Health Canada intends to prioritize promoting awareness of and compliance with the CWCR. We will also be monitoring progress towards compliance; and
  • Beginning on May 1, 2022, Health Canada intends to increase its compliance monitoring activities and take appropriate enforcement action, where necessary, to address identified instances of non-compliance to the CWCR.

In addition to the Buffalo location, Bureau Veritas will be offering this testing at our locations in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Vietnam.
