Bureau Veritas to verify Taiwan Power Company’s 60 MW On-site Energy Storage System is IEC 62933 Compliant

Aug. 5 2022

Bureau Veritas is delighted to announce its partnership with TECO Electric & Machinery Co. Ltd (TECO) performing the testing and certification for their largest 60MW on-site energy storage system. With Bureau Veritas’ rich experience and holistic expertise, TECO has successfully obtained the first IEC 62933 certificate in Taiwan.

With businesses globally trending towards Net-Zero Emissions, the transformation in energy industries worldwide is speeding up, leading to strong demand for innovative energy storage solutions industries in the quest to reduce global carbon emissions.

Furthermore, with the rise in power shortages that have struck Taiwan in recent years, the government has put efforts into developing energy storage technology while also actively constructing large battery energy storage facilities, resulting in new opportunities for energy storage businesses.

Bureau Veritas, the leading testing, inspection, and certification organization, has identified the strong growth in this industry and is assisting manufacturers in mastering the market’s latest requirements, implementing and complying with international standards, and obtain the correct safety certification to insure core assets and working environment. Within the development of the energy storage market, Bureau Veritas supports clients with certification of energy storage cabinets, verification of critical components, battery management system testing, and professional assistance on risk assessments.

Bureau Veritas is honored to have this opportunity to support TECO in becoming the first energy storage system company to obtain the IEC 62933 certificate and IEC 62443-3-3 energy storage Network and system cybersecurity certificate.

TECO recently won Taipower’s contract for energy storage equipment system for 2.6 billion NTD. The scale of the project is 60MW – the largest substation among the 29 ultra-high voltage substations in Taiwan – accounting for 37.5% of Taipower's energy storage capacity, and is an important node in Taiwan's 345KV ultra-high voltage transmission lines.

Pascal Le-Ray, General Manager of Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Technology Products Taiwan addresses, “During the cooperation process with TECO, both parties have conducted multiple analyses and evaluations of the risks outlined in IEC 62933. Bureau Veritas has adhered to the company's consistent philosophy to help clients develop sustainably, leveraging our technical expertise to ensure the progress of TECO’s systems; provide timely and accurate solutions; extensive inspections and evaluations relating to a series of key components; and undertaking wide-ranging analyses of the energy storage system and its’ design.”

The IEC 62933 energy storage system certificate presents a guarantee for equipment quality; being backed up by an extensive set of certification criteria. Therefore, it’s important to select a trusted professional organization for executing testing and certification under the standard to avoid repeats of the testing process.
