The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) includes Chromium VI in their Proposition 65 List. It is listed as a chemical known to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Chromium VI can be used in pigments for tanning leather or dyeing textiles.
Over the last several months, there have been many 60-day notices served to companies for not providing a warning on leather gloves for exposure to Chromium VI. In addition, there has been two Consent Judgements which require a clear and reasonable warning to be displayed on the covered leather gloves that contain Chromium VI, as follows:

California Proposition 65 affects all products sold or distributed in California, including textiles, hard goods, toys, juvenile products, and electrical/electronic items. In its simplest form, as it pertains to consumer products, Prop 65 can be considered a consumer “ right-to-know law ” that informs consumers if certain hazardous chemicals are present in a product or its packaging.
