At the end of 2023 a NEW standard came into effect, EN17885 - which refers to the safety of candle accessories and the proper safety information provided on the labeling. Our Laboratory in Hamburg, Germany has advanced testing facilities for all Homeware products including EN17885.
Candle accessories make a significant contribution to the safe burning of candles and, in conjunction with the candle, determine the safety during use. Many incidents and causes of fires can be traced back to inadequate safety of candle accessories.
What is EN17885 and what does it cover?
The requirements that are defined in EN 17885 cover:
• flammability,
• Fire safety such as secondary ignition,
• fire safety of candle container,
• Stability and stability,
• surface temperature and
• Product labeling
Forming the basis for reducing fire risks when using candles with accessories.
EN 17885 is currently not a harmonized standard, but within the framework of general product safety according to EU Regulation 2023/988 Article 8 it is currently the best way to comply with the “state of the art”.
EN 17885 therefore complements the family of already established European Standard for Candles.

• EN 15493 Indoor candles
• EN 17616 Outdoor candles on sooting behavior:
• EN 15426 and for labeling
• EN 15494 Indoor candles
• EN 17617 Outdoor candles
• EN 16740 “flammable air fresheners” (e.g. scented candles)
