China Mandatory Standard GB 20400-2026 Safety Technical Specification for Leather and Fur Products Published

GB 20400-2026 "Safety Technical Specification for Leather and Fur Products" was issued on March 31, 2026. It applies to the accessible leather and fur parts of daily-use leather, fur products and related articles, as well as the recycled leather products and related components. It does NOT apply to specialized industrial leather, fur, recycled leather products and related articles. It will be effective on April 1, 2027, and will fully replace GB 20400-2006 "Limit of Harmful Substances for Leather and Fur" that has been in force for nearly 20 years. Compared with GB 20400-2006, major technical parameter changes are the following:

New parameters in 2026 Edition

1. New additional safety technical requirements

2. Labeling Requirement:
The Product should be labeled with the standard number and the category of safety technical requirements it complies with, such as ‘GB 20400-2026 B类’ (category B).

4. Revised restricted aromatic amines from dyestuff list
GB 20400-2026 has increased the list to 24 restricted aromatic amines by adding 4-aminoazobenzene.

Implementation Rules of 2026 Edition

1. Products produced or imported after April 1, 2027 shall comply with the requirements of the 2026 version.

2. Products produced or imported before April 1, 2027 can be implemented from the 19th month after the effective date (October 1, 2028).
