China Market Updates: More Substances and Materials Safe for Food Contact Use Approved by National Health Commission this March

The National Health Commission (NHC) of China announced new food ingredients and related products (including food contact materials and additives) that been evaluated and approved in the notification in March 2024. This update lists five new food contact resins and additives.

The newly approved Polybutylene succinate adipate (PBSA) is a kind of biodegradable plastic. Products made of biodegradable plastic are increasing in the market under influence of plastic waste management policies in China.

1. New additives for food contact materials and products

2. New resins for food contact materials and products.

Such restrictive conditions shall be labelled according to GB 4806.1.

1,3-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, polymer with 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (PCT)

3. Expanded scope of resins for food contact materials and products.
