CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for High Chairs

Apr. 7 2021

On Friday, April 2, 2021, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1231, Safety Standard for High Chairs. 16 CFR Part 1231 will now reference ASTM F404-20, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for High Chairs as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of the 16 CFR 1231 referenced the ASTM F404-18 with no modifications. The ASTM F404 has been revised two times since the 2018 version. The changes to the 2018a and 2020 version includes revised test requirements for stability, static loads, warnings plus additional editorial changes.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective July 3, 2021, unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by May 3, 2021.
