CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Infant Swings

Jan. 20 2021

On Tuesday January 19, 2021, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1223, Safety Standard for Infant Swings. 16 CFR Part 1223 will now reference ASTM F2088-20, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Infant and Cradle Swings as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of the 16 CFR 1223 referenced the ASTM F2088-13 with no modifications. ASTM F2088 was revised in 2015 and 2019 however, ASTM did not notify the CPSC of these revised versions. The CPSC was notified of the ASTM F2088-20 version in October of 2020.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective April 3, 2021 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by February 18, 2021.
