CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Sling Carriers

Apr. 20 2020

On Monday April 20, 2020, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1228, Safety Standard for Sling Carriers. 16 CFR Part 1228 will now reference ASTM F2907-19, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers as mandatory with one modification.

The previous version of the 16 CFR 1228 referenced the ASTM F2907-15 with one modification. The 2019 version of the ASTM F2907 includes a revision for carriers that are designed to carry two occupants, a warning statement advising to never use or wear more than one carrier at a time and other minor editorial changes.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective July 6, 2020 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by May 20, 2020.
