EU Added New Substance to Authorized Substances List for Plastic Materials in Food Contact

The European Commission published Regulation (EU) 2023/1627 to amend Regulation (EU) 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. This amendment adds bis(2-ethylhexyl) cyclohexane-1,4- dicarboxylate to the Union list. Regulation enters into force on August 31, 2023.
On 11 August 2023 the European Commission published Regulation (EU) 2023/1627 to amend Annex I of Regulation (EU) 10/2011, the Union list. Substances of the Union list are authorized to be used in plastic materials coming into contact with food under specific conditions.
The amendment will come into force 20 days after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, means 31 August 2023. Newly added is the substance Bis(2-ethylhexyl) cyclohexane-1,4- dicarboxylate (DEHCH), which might be used as plasticizer in PVC.
