EU Restricts Formaldehyde under Toy Safety Directive

On November 20, 2019, the European Commission published Commission Directive (EU) 2019/1929 to restrict formaldehyde in certain toy materials. The Directive introduced new limit values for formaldehyde in polymeric, resin-bonded wood, textile, leather, paper and water-based toy material under Appendix C to Annex II of the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. This new restriction shall be applied from May 21, 2021.
