EU Strengthens Regulation on Persistent Organic Pollutants: Updated Scope and UTC Limits for Five Flame Retardants

On October 28, 2025, the EU released Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/1482, amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This update focuses on revising the unintentional trace contaminant (UTC) limits for five polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants listed in Part A of Annex I.

The amendment regulation (EU) 2025/1482 adjusted the Unintentional Trace Contaminant (UTC) Concentration Limits for the 5 PBDEs (including Tetra-, Penta-, Hexa-, Hepta-, and DecaBDE) in the POP Regulation:
