New Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Wearable Sleep Products for Infants and Toddlers

Feb. 20 2026

On February 1, 2026, the new ASTM F 3735 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Wearable Sleep Products for Infants and Toddlers was approved.

This standard was developed to address incidents associated with wearable sleep products for infants and toddlers identified by the CPSC.

The standard sets specifications, outlines methodology and labeling requirements to address known hazards, such as suffocation, strangulation and choking hazards.  Infant garments and   garments containing a swaddling feature and intended for use by infants and toddlers up to 2 years of age are covered by this safety specification.

The specification does not apply to loose blankets, step-in blankets (i.e. mermaid tail covering) that covers only the child’s feet or legs, or both, or sleep products intended for camping or outdoor use.

Neck opening size is defined in the specification and the method to evaluate this feature, as well as other swaddle design features for safety evaluations. In addition, the labeling details for the product, packaging and instruction requirements for these products are included.

The new standard is available for purchase through ASTM and was announced on Feb, 17, 2026.  For more information please refer to:
