This regulation establishes the harmonised design and content requirements for:
1. A harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity (mandatory at point of sale)
2. A harmonised label for the commercial guarantee of durability (voluntary, producer-offered)
Both tools aim to help consumers make informed, sustainable purchasing decisions by understanding their guarantee rights.
Products Within Scope
All goods/products are within scope, specifically:
- Goods covered by the legal guarantee of conformity under Directive (EU) 2019/771
- Goods with commercial guarantees of durability offered by producers at no additional cost
Eligibility criteria for GARAN Label display:
- Commercial guarantee of durability offered by producer
- No additional cost to the consumer
- Covers the entire good (not just components)
- Duration of more than 2 years
GARAN Labelling – Explanation
What is GARAN?
GARAN is a harmonised label for commercial guarantee of durability — a voluntary commitment from a producer that goods will maintain their required functions and performance through normal use for a specified period (>2 years).
Key characteristics:
- Language-neutral design with multilingual translations
- "GARAN" = "guarantee" in multiple EU languages
- Designed to be easily recognisable, understandable, and reproducible across the EU

Editable vs. Non-Editable Elements
Cannot be edited:
- Title, tick-mark, calendar symbol, legal guarantee reminder, QR code, language translations
Can be edited:
- Duration in years (XX)
- Producer brand/trademark name
- Model identifier
Display Requirements
For non-online contracts:
- Minimum size: 95 × 100 mm
- Can be colour (CMYK) or black and white
- Font: Inter (Regular, SemiBold, ExtraBold)
For online distance contracts:
- Must be in colour (RGB)
- May use "nested display" (expandable on click/hover)
- Full label appears on first interaction
Colour Specifications
- Blue: Pantone Reflex Blue C (#003399)
- Yellow: Pantone Yellow C (#FFEDOO)
- Black: Pantone Black 6 C (#000000)
- White: Pantone 000C (#FFFFFF)
Legal Guarantee of Conformity Notice
A separate mandatory harmonised notice informs consumers of:
- Minimum 2-year legal guarantee duration
- Available remedies for non-conforming goods
- Seller liability conditions
- Practical steps for complaints
- Reference to national law extensions
- Distinction from commercial guarantees
Display requirements: A4 minimum (colour or B&W for non-online; colour RGB for online)
Entry Into Force
- Published: 2 October 2025
- Applicable from: 27 September 2026
