Update of Mandatory Standards for Food Contact Materials in China

The Chinese National Health Committee (NHC) published 85 food safety standards and 3 corrigendum in notification No.6 of 2023 on 25 September 2023. There are 5 mandatory standards over food contact materials (FCM) and articles and 12 standards on food contact test methods among them. The standards on plastic, metal, rubber, composite materials are revisions from current standards, while the standard of printing ink for food contact is a new standard.

These standards will enter into force as of 6 September 2024. Manufacturers shall prepare to adopt the new mandatory standards, and shall manufacture compliant food contact materials and products for China market.
