Published 4th September 2024 The Product Regulation and Metrology Bill states 21 product areas which can continue to use the CE mark instead of the UKCA mark in an attempt to support business costs.
The proposes amendments relate to consumer safety, environmental protection, and health and safety for products such as machinery, aerosols, electrical equipment, pressure equipment, and radio equipment. The key changes include:
- Allowing economic operators to meet conformity assessment or testing requirements by complying with corresponding EU requirements.
- Revoking certain transitional measures.
- Updating definitions to remove references to "IP completion day".
- Providing transitional provisions to allow continued supply of products that were compliant before the changes.
The proposed legislation aims to streamline regulations and maintain alignment with EU standards for these diverse product categories after the UK's withdrawal from the European Union. In short the following product areas may continue to use a CE mark alone for the GB market:
