U.S. CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Non-Full Size Cribs

Mar. 7 2023

On Monday March 6, 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1220, Safety Standard for Non-Full Size Baby Cribs. 16 CFR Part 1220 will now reference ASTM F406-22, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Full Size Baby Cribs as mandatory with several editorial modifications.

The previous version of the 16 CFR 1220 referenced the ASTM F406-19 as mandatory with several editorial modifications. The editorial modifications are only references to the play yard sections of the standard. The F406-22 version, as it relates to Non-Full Size Cribs, now includes a performance requirement for cords/straps that can form a loop and revised requirements for the entrapment in accessories performance test.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective June 3, 2023 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by April 5, 2023.
