U.S. CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Toddler Beds

May. 15 2026

On Thursday May 14, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule (DFR) for 16 CFR Part 1217, Safety Standard for Toddler Beds. 16 CFR Part 1217 will now reference ASTM F1821-26, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toddler Beds as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of 16 CFR 1217 referenced the ASTM F1821-19e1 as mandatory with no modifications. The F1821-26 version only added clarifications into the standards introduction and scope sections as well as other editorial revisions throughout the standard.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective August 29,2026 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by June 15, 2026.
