U.S. CPSC Publishes Portable Hook-On Chairs Direct Final Rule

Mar. 30 2026

On Monday March 30, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule (DFR) for 16 CFR Part 1233, Safety Standard for Portable Hook-On Chairs. 16 CFR Part 1233 will now reference ASTM F1235-25, Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Portable Hook-On Chairs as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of 16 CFR 1233 referenced the ASTM F1235-18 as mandatory with no modifications. The F1235-25 version added a definition for protective components, added requirements for batteries, battery compartments, and AC adapters, and also revised the sections for markings and labeling and instructions.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective July 19, 2026 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by April 29, 2026.
