U.S. CPSC Publishes Window Blind Regulations

Dec. 7 2022

As announced in early November, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Commissioners voted in favor of two new final rules to strengthen the expectations for corded window coverings within the USA.  The first rule under 16 CFR 1120 makes compliance with some of the existing ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2018 standard requirements a mandatory expectation.  The second rule under 16 CFR 1260 specifies new expectations for operating cords on custom window covering products.

On November 28th, these two final rules were officially published in the Federal Register, therefore, initiating the implementation period for each regulation.  The first rule under 16 CFR 1120 goes into effect 30 days after publication in the Federal Register, so this is effective December 28, 2022.  The second rule under 16 CFR 1260 will become effective 180 days after publication, so this is May 30, 2023.
