Salt Fog/Corrosion

Overview
Equipment used and installed in outdoor environments are often exposed to salt from roadway deicing, or salty air in coastal environments. It can be difficult to simulate real world environments due to the natural variability of weather at various locations. There is generally no way to accurately correlate exposure time in a test chamber to the life expectancy of a product. However, accelerated testing in a controlled environment can expose deficiencies in coatings and materials. The object is generally to assess the ability of enclosures, coatings, and paints to resist corrosion.
