On June 26, Illinois passed HB4702, the Diaper Labeling Act. In 18 months, the law will require each package or box containing diapers sold in Illinois to include an ingredient list. All intentionally added ingredients in the product shall be in a plain and conspicuous list, in order of predominance, except ingredients at one percent or less may be presented in any order. The ingredient list needs to be either printed or affixed to the package or box.
The definition of “diapers” for the purpose of the act is, “a type of garment or product inserted into a garment for the purpose of absorbing feces and urine to prevent soiling of outer clothing or the external environment without the use of a toilet. "Diaper" includes either disposable or reusable products.” Meaning, the law applies to both adult and child diapers.
Products manufactured prior to the effective date that do not comply with the ingredient disclosure requirements may still be sold, until existing inventory is depleted.
