Toy Safety Standard EN71-8:2026 Published

The revised version of toy safety standard EN71-8:2026 (Safety of Toys – Activity Toys for Domestic Use) has now been published.

This standard will replace the current version of EN71-8 (EN71-8:2018).

Key Changes Include:

Inflatable activity toys:
• New requirements and test methods for constant-air inflatable activity toys and contained-air inflatable activity toys.

Protruding parts:
• Revised requirements for protruding parts situated on accessible moving parts and in places where the user is running, sliding, climbing, sitting or lying down.

Diameter of ropes and other flexible means of suspension:
• New requirement added for straps or similar means of suspension.

Ladders and similar means of access to activity toys:
• This requirement does not now apply to ladders with rungs or stiles if their cross sections comply with the new requirements for grip and grasp.

Entrapment of head and neck:
• Clarification on how to determine whether a swing device located near a slide creates a head and neck entrapment risk in the area of the starting and sliding sections of the slide.

Entrapment of fingers:
• Requirements split into two distinct sections addressing risks related to forced movement and risks related to falling.

Minimum clearance between adjacent swing devices, and adjacent structures:
• Requirements have been revised to highlight the specific measurement points.
